Royal Abbey of Fontevraud
Local name: Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud
Founded in 1110, the abbey is one of the largest in France. The Benedictine rule was followed, and male and female communities lived under the same roof. The core of the building is a quadrilateral of buildings consisting of an early Gothic church with two soaring towers and Romanesque cloisters with living quarters. Gothic farm buildings are adjacent to them.
