The aquarium is the largest of its kind in Europe. The Nausicaá Center is a center for the study of marine life. The aquarium is divided into sections: Shark Aquarium, Tropical Lagoon, Sea Lion Reserve, Touch Pool, World Ocean, Underwater Forest, Penguin Beach.
The Nausicaá Center National de la Mer marine life research center focuses primarily on the relationship between man and the sea. The construction of the aquarium was carried out in 1987 - 1991 thanks to the involvement of oceanographers Phillipe Vallerre, Stephane Henard, Christophe Liacopoulos and the mayor of Boulogne-sur-Mar, Guy Lengange.
Among the research and exhibitions that are carried out here, the sections devoted to the sea lion, the African penguin, and the exhibition focusing on the marine life of Madagascar and the Mozambique Channel deserve special attention. There are also exhibitions for children and multimedia presentations.
