Ajaccio is the largest city in Corsica and the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. There is his family home open to the public.

The city has a small historic center with most of its most important buildings. It is primarily the 16th-century cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where Napoleon was baptized in 1771, and his family home, which now houses a museum. A large part of the original furniture has survived to our times. Near the house there is the Napoleon Monument, and the second, larger one is located on the Asuterlitz Square. Around the most visited places is the Old Town with narrow streets and lots of restaurants that always come alive during the tourist season.

Outside the center is the most important Ajaccio museum, the Fesch Museum. It presents an art collection assembled by Napoleon Bonaparte's uncle, Cardinal Fesch.

Contemporary Ajaccio attractions are primarily associated with seaside holidays. There is a sandy, though not very large beach with good facilities. There are many hotels and holiday apartments in its vicinity.
