Carrieres de Bibemus
Local name: Carrières de Bibémus
Former quarry located on a vast, rocky plateau near Aix-en-Provence. In the 17th and 18th centuries a stone was obtained from it, which was used to build city monuments and fountains. Paul Cezanne discovered the place again and it became a source of inspiration for him. Today, the quarry, left in its natural state, is overgrown with lush vegetation and creates a garden in which sculptures and architectural elements carved in stone can be seen. The Cezanne Museum conducts guided walks that reveal the secrets of the place and its connections with the artist to tourists.
