Hôtel de Caumont
Local name: Hôtel de Caumont
Hotel de Caumont is a baroque residence in the heart of Aix-en Provence. Currently, the building is adapted to a cultural center, which hosts temporary exhibitions of paintings and fine arts as well as concerts, performances and meetings with people of culture.
The residence was built in the first half of the 18th century. The late baroque building with elements of classicism was made of stone. Its regular, symmetrical facade is topped with a tympanum. The entrance is decorated with pilasters and a balcony on the first floor.
For years, the Hotel de Caumont was the seat of various cultural institutions, but its potential was not fully exploited. In 2015, after a thorough renovation, a cultural center was opened here. Part of the 18th and 19th century interiors were reconstructed. The Center presents 2 temporary exhibitions a year. One is always about old masters' painting, the other is related to contemporary art. A film about Paul Cezanne's relationship with Provence is also shown every day. A climatic café operates in the garden.
