Kouvola is a town and a commune comprising a dozen or so towns located on the edge of the Finnish Lake District. The area of the Repovesi National Park extends around the area, and the area is perfect for active tourism.
The surroundings of Kouvola are known for their beautiful natural landscapes. In the past, it was an area of intensive logging for the furniture and paper industries, but now nature reigns here. Repovesi National Park offers many opportunities for active leisure. There are walking paths, bicycle paths, canoe routes, as well as places where you can go down on wooden rafts. The 19th century Wood and Cardboard Factory in Verla, entered on the UNESCO list, reminds of the paper industry that developed in the past. When visiting Kouvola, it is one of the must-see points on the program. On the premises of the factory, there is a sawmill, drying room, warehouse and the owner's residence.
Many of Kouvola's attractions are concentrated in the Tykkimäki area. There is a family amusement park Tykkimäki, an Aquapark, a sandy beach by the lake and a traditional Finnish sauna. An interesting place combining contact with nature and science is the Mustila Arboretum located a bit more to the north.
