Vippefyret Lighthouse

Local name: Vippefyret

The lighthouse was built in the mid-twentieth century as a faithful replica of a building from 1627. It is not a typical lighthouse, but a light mechanism in the form of a wooden tower with a raised open basket in which fire was lit for navigation and warning ships.

It was the first lighthouse of this type in Denmark. The original structure was used until 1747, when it was replaced by the White Lantern in Skagen. The first replica was made by artist Carl Locher in 1913 on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Skagen's history. It was replaced by the current reconstruction in 1958. It is lit once a year on the night of the summer solstice.
