Frederiksberg Castle
Local name: Frederiksberg Slot
The castle is one of the most impressive examples of Renaissance fortresses in Denmark. Its oldest part comes from the mid-16th century. It is the historic residence of Danish monarchs. From the 17th to the 19th century, eight coronations of Danish kings took place there, and royal weddings were also held here. Currently, the restored, lavishly furnished interiors serve as a museum.
More than 80 rooms are available for visiting, so it is worth allocating about 3 hours for the visit. The rooms and suites are richly decorated with stucco, tapestries, furniture and works of art. It is worth paying special attention to the castle chapel, the audience hall and the huge ballroom with a carved ceiling.
Adjacent to the castle is a baroque terraced garden which then becomes a less ordered romantic park.
