The recreation area was created in 1884 according to the design of František Thomayer at the site of the medieval cattle market. It consists of extensive, relaxing lawns, monumental specimens of trees and numerous sculptures, depicting, among others famous writers, including Vítězslav Hálek and the famous Czech poet and feminist, Eliška Krásnohorska.
