Memorial to the victims of the Krkonoše
Local name: Památník obětem Krkonoš
The symbolic monument to the victims of the mountains is located along the road to Śnieżka in Luční sedle. It is a former stone chapel, in which there are plaques with the names of people who died in the Giant Mountains.
Since accurate statistics began to be kept in 1935, over 50 people were killed in the Giant Mountains. Victims are mainly collected in winter, when avalanches fall in the mountains. Initially, the symbolic cemetery of the people of the mountains in the Giant Mountains was located in the Obří Dul Valley. In 1957, an avalanche destroyed him. Then the eighteenth-century brick chapel in Luční sedle was chosen as the memorial site. Built as a souvenir of Václav Renner, who died in the Giant Mountains in 1798. It is a small, rectangular building covered with a hip roof with a stone isosceles cross. The plates are placed on the inside walls of the building.
