Local name: Městské muzeum
The Municipal Museum in Nové Město nad Metují is located in the historic former guard house. The Gothic building with thick walls houses six exhibitions dedicated to the history and culture of the foothills of the Eagle Mountains. You can see the original decor of the baroque pharmacy and the carved Christmas crib. There are also exhibitions devoted to artistic craftsmanship and the history of the New Town.
The museum was founded at the end of the 19th century. Since then his collections have been constantly growing. In addition to documents, engravings, graphics, objects from city houses, craft tools, you can see the interior of the pharmacy run by the Brotherhood of Mercy. Not only counters and shelves have survived, but also the tools used by pharmacists, books and recipes of medicines. An attraction of the museum is also the Municipal Bethlehem, i.e. a carved wooden nativity scene from the late 19th century.
