The Yermasoyia dam (or Germasogeia) retains the water flowing from the Amatho River in a reservoir of approximately 110 hectares, which can hold up to 13.5 million cubic meters of water. The dam is 111 meters long and in 2006 car traffic was opened on it. The construction of a dam here resulted in the creation of a unique and very valuable ecosystem.
The Yermasoyia Dam was built in 1968, and nowadays its surroundings are often frequented recreational areas, perfectly suited for hiking and cycling trips. The artificial lake created by the dam was inhabited by numerous species of fish, so you can find anglers here. On the lake you can also enjoy water sports such as canoeing.
The dam and the lake created by it is of great importance from the ornithological point of view, because it is an important point on the migration route of various species of water birds. For this reason, the dam and its surroundings attract lovers of nature and bird-watching.
