The Narona Archaeological Museum was constructed on the site of an archaeological site in Vid, where the remains of an ancient Roman temple were found. This is the first in situ museum in Croatia, which allows you to see the sculptures and artifacts from the temple in their original place in a unique way. The museum's collection includes about 900 exhibits.
The first archeological works in this area were carried out in the second half of the nineteenth century, but only excavations in 1995-1996 led to the finding of the temple known as Augusteum. The most important finds include floor mosaic and 17 marble statues depicting Roman emperors and members of their families.
The work associated with the creation of the museum began in 2004, and its ceremonial opening took place in May 2007. Currently, various cultural events, concerts and performances are also organized here.
