The church Nicholas in Varaždin is a medieval temple, currently as a result of reconstruction having mainly a baroque character. Inside the church, the altar made in 1761 by carpenter Thomas Huetter and sculptors Ignaz Hohenburger and Friedrich Peter deserves special attention. The curiosities also include organs made by Josef Brandel and placed in the church in the last years of the 19th century.
The history of the church certainly dates back to the fourteenth century, and perhaps even the second half of the twelfth century. Earlier there was the parish church of St. Wenceslas. Its remains in the Romanesque style were discovered in the foundations of the currently existing building.
This church was rebuilt several times, which is why it has elements from different periods. The building's current appearance is largely due to renovations carried out at the beginning of the 20th century, which have retained the baroque style of the church.
