The church John the Baptist is part of the monastery complex belonging to the Franciscan order. This temple represents the baroque style. The building is characterized by a tower, which measures 54.5 meters and is the highest tower in Varaždina. Next to the church is a historic pharmacy, where you can see very valuable ceiling frescoes made in the 18th century.
The church John the Baptist was built in the 1650s on the remains of an earlier building. In the monastery complex there was also a hospital and a pharmacy. They took care not only of the religious, but also of the city's inhabitants, which made the monastery actively involved in urban life.
A bronze statue of Bishop Grgur Ninski by Ivan Meštrovic is standing next to the church. According to legend, this monument brings luck, and to use its magical powers you only need to touch the fingers at the foot of the statue.
