Memorial Complex of the Battle of Batina

Local name: Spomen Kompleks Bitke na Batini

The Battle of Batina Memorial is a monument erected in 1947 by Antoni Augustinčić. It consists of three parts. The most characteristic is the central obelisk measuring almost 20 meters, on which stands the figure of "Winner" with a torch in his hands. Directly below the monument is a mass grave, in which the deadly remains of 1297 battle participants are buried. The Memorial House of the Battle of Batina was built nearby, serving as a museum.

The Battle of Batina took place in November 1944 between the forces of the Red Army and the units of the National Liberation Army of Yugoslavia on the one hand, and Wehrmacht troops with allies on the other. Germany sought to allow the withdrawal of its units via Croatia and Slovenia towards Austria. However, the fight ended with the victory of NOVJ and Red Army troops.
