The monastery was founded in the 14th century. It consists of a church and two-story residential buildings, which form a courtyard closed on all sides. The original church with medieval frescoes adorning it was destroyed in the earthquake in 1913. The present church was built in the same place in 1951.
The monastery houses a small museum dedicated to the Orthodox Bishop Clement, who was also a writer and political activist. In 1893, by order of Prince Ferdinand, he was forced to live in a monastery under police supervision. In the cell where he spent 15 months at the time, you can now see an exhibition devoted to him.
There are also some historic icons in the temple, preserved and transferred from older churches. Among them there are images of Christ, the Mother of God, John the Baptist and St. George.
