Mrbab - Musee Constantin Meunier is housed in the former house-studio of Constantin Meunier (1831-1905) - a Belgian painter, sculptor and designer. The museum presents about 150 Meunier's works and documents, including monumental (usually life-size), realistic bronze sculptures depicting workers at work. Musee Constantin Meunier is part of the Koninklijke Musea voor Schone Kunsten, i.e. the Royal Museums of Fine Arts.
Meunier built his headquarters at the end of his life - for the studio, but also for the future museum of his own works. In total, he collected around 700 paintings, sculptures and designs. In 1936, the building and collection became the property of the state, and since 1939 they have been made available to the public.
The museum advertises the slogan "Art of work & work of art". It refers directly to the theme of the works of Meunier, who was fascinated by the industrial revolution taking place before his eyes, the emergence of the urban proletariat, economic and social changes.
