The BELvue Museum collects collections on the history of Belgium from 1830 to the present day. The exhibitions were divided into seven thematic sections presented in different rooms. In each room you can admire, among others, historical documents, photographs or fragments of films.
Topics presented included issues such as democracy, prosperity, solidarity, pluralism, migration, and language and Europe. At each exhibition, at first, the problem was presented from a modern perspective, and then it was developed and explained from the point of view of the past. Thanks to this form of communication, it is easy for visitors to understand and get to know current Belgium.
The name of the institution was created by combining two words: "Belgium" and "Bellevue". "Bellevue" is the name of the hotel that now houses the museum. The neoclassical building was transformed for museum purposes in 1992.
