Millstatt am See is a wonderful combination of nature and culture. This spa town on the shores of an alpine lake is famous for its great conditions for relaxation and a mixture of historical and contemporary architecture.

The beginnings of the village are related to the functioning of the Benedictine monastery, whose church, rebuilt many times, and the 12th-century residential part with cloisters are the most important monument of Millstatt. The tour also includes a visit to the Monastery Museum, which collects liturgical items, works of sacred art and monuments related to the history of the congregation from the Middle Ages to the present day.

The buildings in Millstatt am See have taken shape over the last two hundred years. From the beginning of the 19th century, the town began to become a fashionable bathing area and a place of rest for the elite. Nineteenth-century villas and palaces, which still serve as guesthouses or restaurants, are a reminder of this. Next to them, modern, futuristic villas have developed on the shore in the last dozen or so years, and in 2012 a building of a bathhouse offering spa and wellness treatments was opened.

Lake Millstätter is the highlight of Millstatt am See. It is one of the deepest lakes in Austria, with springs at the bottom. These places can be seen during a boat trip on the lake. There are numerous holiday resorts and beaches on its shores. In the vicinity of Millstatt, the most popular is the Dellach Bath with grassy areas for relaxation, a pier, water equipment rental and a guarded place for bathing.
