Local name: Museum Carnuntinum

The largest Roman museum in Austria was opened in 1904 by Emperor Franz Josef I. The collection includes over 2 million exhibits, and most of them come from excavations carried out in the nineteenth century in the ancient city of Carnuntum. It is located in a building modeled on the style of Roman villas.
