The gorge is located in the Cheile Bicazului-Hășmaș National Park. It is 6 km long along the current of the Bicaz River. The walls of the gorge are 300 meters high and are a popular place for climbing. On their steep surfaces, birds from the species of wallons often nest.
In the immediate vicinity of the gorge, there is Lacul Roşu Lake, which was created as a result of a landslide in the 19th century. Traditional houses and hotels were built on its shore.
