The 1st Fort in Kaunas was built in the years 1888-1889, and its purpose was to cover the German fortress on the west side. It is one of the least urbanized forts of Kaunas. Although it was destroyed during the war, it is quite well-kept, and in its interior scientists study wintering bats.
