Slane Castle is the 18th-century ancestral home of the Marques of Conyngham. The residence can be visited with a guide. It takes about 45 minutes and allows you to learn about the history of the castle. There is a whiskey distillery on the property, also open to the public since 2017. The extensive lawns adjacent to the castle form a natural amphitheater, used for concerts that have been held here regularly since 1981.
Among the stars appearing at Slane Castle over the years were, among others The Rolling Stones, U2, Guns'N'Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queen, David Bowie. In 2011, Kings Of Leon hosted the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the tradition of organizing concerts at the castle.
In 1991, a fire caused considerable damage to the building and completely destroyed the eastern part. The residence reopened in 2001 following the completion of a ten-year restoration program. In 2003, a castle cannon was found in the nearby Boyne River.
