Die kirche Anna und Shandon Bells Turm

Lokaler Name: Eaglais Naomh Áine

St. Anne's Church is located in the Shandon area of Cork. The temple belongs to the Irish Church. It is a stone structure on a cross plan with a characteristic tower tapering towards the top. There are eight bells that play the melody of the song "Bells of Shandon".

The present temple was built in the 18th century on the site of an earlier one, destroyed during the siege of Cork in 1690. The local red sandstone and white limestone from the demolished Franciscan monastery were used for its construction. The church was built on a cross plan with a presbytery ending in a semicircle. Its interior has simple furnishings, mainly made of wood.

There are 8 bells from the mid-18th century in the belfry of the church. Visitors can enter the bell tower and play on their own. Bells of Shandon has been playing the melody of the song since the mid-19th century.
