National Maritime Museum von Irland
Lokaler Name: Músaem Mhuirí Náisiúnta na hÉireann
The National Maritime Museum is located on the outskirts of Dublin, in the port area of Dun Laoghaire. Its seat is the former church of the sea people. Its collection includes ship models, their equipment, such as anchors, lifeboats, mechanical devices, as well as maps, documents and logbooks.
The museum was established to document Ireland's relationship with the sea. The exhibitions gathered exhibits related to civil and military shipping. There are also pieces of old lighthouse equipment, such as old manually operated floodlights. There is also an exhibition devoted to Ireland's participation in the naval battles of World War I.
In the former church, there is a chapel in which there are services for people of the sea and people who died at sea. The plates bear the names of people who have disappeared and died in sea catastrophes.
