The National Photographic Archive of Dublin is located in Temple Bar, on its main square. It is a modern building that houses the world's largest collection of Irish-related photos.
The Photographic Archive is part of the National Library of Ireland. In 1998 it moved to a new building in Temple Bar. The modern building houses a reading room, a warehouse and a gallery. The latter presents temporary exhibitions from the archives.
The National Photographic Archive has in its collection photos covering the period from 1870 to the present day. These are photos related to important events in the history of the country, famous people, cultural events, but also presenting the lives of ordinary Irish people in the last 150 years. In recent years, over 20,000 photographs from the archives from 1870-1954 have been digitized and are available on the website of the National Library.
