The Old Museum in Kuopio is a museum complex consisting of 11 historic buildings from the end of the 18th to the end of the 19th century. Their restored interiors allow you to learn about the conditions of life in Kuopio at that time. There is also a pharmacy museum and three workshops: tailoring, shoemaking and weaving.
In one of the buildings there is an exhibition hall presenting general information about the district and the museum. It also houses the salon of Minna Canth, a Finnish drama writer and feminist, who lived in the second half of the 19th century. It was reproduced on the basis of old photographic material. It includes a set of neo-Rococo sofas, a rocking chair, a chest of drawers and a photograph of Minna taken in 1894 by photographer Victor Barsokevitsch.
As a curiosity, it is worth mentioning that the names of the streets placed on the plates on the museum houses were written in three languages - Finnish, Swedish and Russian, such as was the case at the beginning of the 20th century.
