Iglesia de San Clemente en Rømø

Nombre local: Sct. Clemens Kirke Rømø

The historic church was built in the Gothic style in the mid-thirteenth century, and then thoroughly expanded in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It is dedicated to St. Clement, the patron saint of sailors. Therefore, just below the vault, you can see seven votive ships, donated by shipowners and sailors.

While visiting the Church of St. Clement in Rømø, it is also worth paying attention to eight antique chandeliers, including one from 1704 and probably made in the Netherlands. Next to the pulpit hangs a chandelier donated to the church in the 18th century by 12 commanders, whose names were engraved on the plaque. Other names can be seen on the backs of the pews - in the 17th and 18th centuries it was customary for wealthy citizens to buy their own seats.

There is a commemorative plaque between the pulpit and the main altar. It bears 11 names of soldiers who died on the island during World War I.
