Kawarna is a resort town on the Black Sea, with beautiful sandy beaches and a picturesque location. In addition to relaxing by the sea, the main attraction here is Cape Kaliakra with the ruins of the fortress and bird watching stands.
The history of the city goes back to antiquity. It was founded as a Greek colony and then was under Roman rule. It was the Romans who began to fortify this place, and the construction of forts continued over the next centuries. Today, only ruins remain, which blend into the landscape picturesquely.
Tourists come to Kavarna mainly in summer, when the local sandy beaches invite to relax by the sea. These include Cybele Beach, Granny Beach, Bendida Beach and Argata Beach. Some of them have a good leisure infrastructure, others remain semi-wild and allow you to rest independently in a natural environment.
An important attraction of Kavarna is the narrow and long Cape Kaliakra. It is a popular walking area with nice views of the coast. There are ruins of a fortress here, and many sea birds nest in the rocks. Another interesting place in the vicinity of the village is the Yailata Archaeological Reserve, where you can see the ruins of another of the local fortresses and the seats of the former inhabitants of the area carved in the rocks.
The city also has several interesting museums, such as the History Museum, the Ethnographic Museum and the Sea Exposition located in the renovated building of the Turkish Baths.
