Balchik is a charming resort on the shores of the Black Sea, which owes its fame not only to its beautiful sandy beaches, but also to the palace of Romanian Queen Maria, built at the beginning of the 20th century.

The town is often called the White Resort, due to its location on limestone coastal rocks. It is intimate and much less lively than other popular resorts on the Bulgarian coast. To this day, it has retained the charm of the former royal vacation spot and numerous villas from the beginning of the 20th century.

The beaches in and around Balchik, including the famous Central Beach, are covered with soft golden sand. They are perfectly developed and have full sports, dining and leisure facilities, as well as numerous swimming equipment rentals. The well-known Tuzłat thermal spa with a spa complex is also located just 4 km from the city.

The history of Balchik goes back to the Greek times, when the settlement of Krunoy was located here. The ruins of the Temple of Cyblel come from the ancient period. In turn, from the medieval times, you can see the ruins of the Karvun Fortress here.

However, the biggest attraction apart from the beach is the Palace in Balchik and the surrounding botanical garden. It was built as the summer residence of the Romanian Queen Maria Koburg. From 1913, this part of the coast belonged to Romania, and Bulgaria regained it only in 1940. The residence designed by Italian architects, called the Silent Nest, combines ancient, Moorish, oriental and Art Nouveau influences, and the surrounding garden is one of the most beautiful in the Balkans.
