Castle Oberhofen

A medieval monument, inscribed on the list of national cultural heritage, stands on the shores of Lake Thun. The stronghold dates back to the 13th century and has served as a museum since 1954. The castle rooms and the extensive park convey the stories of residents residing outside over the centuries.

The chambers that have been turned into a gallery show living culture from the 16th to the 19th century. The castle has neo-Gothic dining rooms, knight's chambers and Turkish salons. The chapel with characteristic frescoes was added on the first floor of the castle in 1473.

A part of the castle complex also remains a large garden, which is considered one of the most beautiful in Switzerland. The park was created in 1840 and to this day it impresses with its richness and exotic vegetation. There are oriental trees, flower arrangements and towers, and the whole landscape is eagerly used by newlyweds wanting to have romantic photo sessions.
