Linköping Cathedral

Local name: Linköpings domkyrka

Linköping Cathedral is the second largest church building in Sweden, after Uppsala Cathedral. It is considered one of the most important buildings in the country from the full and late medieval period. Its history dates back to the 11th century, and the construction lasted until the 15th century. The temple is 110 m long, 35 m wide, and its ceiling is 18 m high.

During the tour, it is worth paying attention to the unique sculptural decorations from the Middle Ages, the pulpit and the organ front. In the walls of the aisles, you can also see blind arcades from various stages of the construction of the church. Those dating back to the 14th century are decorated with bas-reliefs of people and animals.

The west tower is 107 meters high, making it the third tallest church tower in Sweden. It houses the sacristy and the so-called chat room. You can see stained glass windows by Pär Andersson. There is also the so-called vapenhus, where formerly armed men had to lay down their arms before entering the church.
