Mercado de Colón is located in a spacious Art Nouveau building with a metal structure topped with a glass roof. It covers an area of 3,500 m2. The walls inside the building are decorated with mosaics depicting scenes from the life of the rural people of Valencia.
The market has many food stalls, restaurants, pubs and cafes. Various types of events are organized there. First of all, fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and sausages, fish and seafood, local sweets and many types of cheese are sold at the market.
The building in which the market is located was built in 1914-1916 according to the design of Francis Mora Berenguer. At the end of the 20th century, the commercial significance of the market slightly weakened, but it is still a popular meeting place. In 2003, the building was restored and adapted to the standards of the 21st century.
