The museum dedicated to the outstanding Spanish writer was opened on December 12, 1994, on the 410th anniversary of Miguel de Cervantes' wedding to Catalina de Palacios. Its seat is a historic 16th-century manor owned by Alonso Quijada Salazar, considered by critics to be the prototype of the figure of Don Quixote.
