Novi Pazar is located in southern Serbia in the vicinity of the border with Kosovo, which is not recognized by the state authorities. In its vicinity there are valuable objects inscribed on the UNESCO list, and in it itself houses several objects from the Turkish rule.
Thanks to the centuries-old Turkish rule, the atmosphere of the city has something of oriental bazaars and Middle Eastern cities. Narrow streets, low buildings and many restaurants and bars serving Balkan cuisine mean that you can eat well in the Old Town and go for a walk.
Among the monuments of the city dominate those from the period of Turkish rule. These are the 15th-century mosque Altum-Alem mosque. former city baths and the Amir-Aga caravanserai.
However, Novi Pazar and its surroundings are also the place where the first Serbian state was created. Nearby is the UNESCO-listed first capital of the state, Rashki (Stari Ras) and the 12th-century Sopocani Monastery. In the city itself you can also see the Petrova Crkva temple from the 9th century.
