The church was built between 1660 and 1770 for the Jesuit monastery. It is a one-nave building hidden behind a huge facade with a dozen or so windows and a decorated tympanum. The interior of the temple is covered with a barrel vault and partly lined with azulejos. In the niches of the nave there are side altars, and the main altar has a rich sculptural setting.
