The fortress located in the village, on the right bank of the Tagus river is a defensive complex that includes several buildings. It includes the Fort of Our Lady of Light Cascais, the Tower de Santo António de Cascais and the Palace of the Citadel of Cascais. The whole functioned as a defensive, and now it is the summer residence of the President of the Portuguese Republic.
