Kashubian Ethnographic Park
Local name: Kaszubski Park Etnograficzny
On the area of 22 hectares, about 50 wooden architecture objects have been collected from the area of Kashubia and Kociewie. Visitors will see there a dozen or so complete peasant farms, several small noble manors, wind mills, and public utility facilities - a school, church, sawmill or forge. The oldest buildings are dated back to the 17th century.
Kashubian Ethnographic Park derives its origins from a private collection of Kashubian mob caps, glass painting, farm equipment, and furniture, collected by a local school teacher, Izydor Gulgowski. In 1906, he bought a peasant's cottage and set up a private museum there. Despite the fire, the museum had preserved two world wars and in 1948 became the property of the state.A fisherman's house was soon added to the Gulgowscy's cottage, and so the Museum of Kashubian Cottages was established. Over the years, more objects were brought in and the area of the open-air museum was enlarged. Most of the buildings have complete equipment, which allows to offer numerous workshops and educational activities. Visitors can learn about embroidery techniques, iron forging, painting on glass, weaving, making paper flowers, and rural toys.Less
