RACZKI ELBLĄSKIEPoland
The lowest point in Poland
Local name: Najniżej położony punkt w Polsce
Raczki Elbląskie is a small village located near Elbląg, consisting of merely 170 inhabitants. The official lowest point in Poland, which is 180cm below sea level, can be found there. It's marked by the special red pole with blue waves that shows the height of the sea level. It also consists of the information board.
In 2013, two researchers, geodesy specialist Jacek Gross and historian Edmund Łabieniec, proved that the even deeper depression which is 207cm below the sea level is located in Marzęcino village. The discovery was pre-confirmed by Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography, however, Raczki Elbląske wasn't officially removed from the pedestal yet. The further research will show if the value of this point is an effect of natural processes or if it is a result of human activity. It can be considered a record-holder only in the first case.Less
