Called the father of Polish literature, Mikołaj Rej has well-documented relations with Świętorzyskie Land especially Nagłowice. This small town is mostly associated with the writer. The local manor is occupied by the museum dedicated to Mikołaj Rej and his relations with the town.
The name "Mikołaj Rej Manor" can be misleading. The building where the museum is located is over 200 years younger than the writer. It was built at the end of the 19th century in an English landscape garden by Kacper Walewski. It is possible that another szlachta house was situated here but there are no reliable sources. The manor was rebuilt several times. Its current look was achieved at the beginning of the 20th century. It is a ground floor building consisting of the main structure and two symmetrical wings. It is covered with a gabled roof. The portico leads to the inside. In 1969, on the 400th anniversary of the death of Mikołaj Rej, the exhibition dedicated to his works and relations with Nagłowice was organized in the manor. It is presented to this day. It contains fragments of works, depictions of the writer, and exhibits showing the importance of Mikołaj Rej to the history of Polish literature.Less
