Museum of Warmia and Mazury
Local name: Muzeum Warmii i Mazur
The Museum of Warmia and Mazury in Lidzbark Warmiński is a branch of the Museum in Olsztyn. It is located in a Gothic castle built in the 14th century, which for many years served as the seat of Warmia bishops.
Visitors to the museum can admire antique furniture, everyday objects, artistic handicrafts, as well as gothic works of art from Warmia. There are also exhibits related to the famous inhabitants of the castle - including Nicolaus Copernicus and Ignacy Krasicki.
In 1927, the first regional museum was opened in the castle. However, its collections were devastated and stolen during World War II. Another museum in this place was established in the 1960s. The facility became a branch of the Museum of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, and in 1976 it gained its modern name.
