High Gate
Local name: Wysoka Brama
One of the three medieval gates of Lidzbark Warmiński, preserved to the present day. It is a massive, four-story brick building in the Gothic style. High Gate is one of the most valuable buildings of this type in Warmia and Mazury. It is classified as a first-class monument.
The gate consists of a body connecting two semicircular towers. From the entrance side, the gate is decorated with additional architectural ornaments. Its construction can only be admired from the outside - the interiors have not been made available for tourists.
The gate was erected (depending on the sources) in the 14th or 15th century. It was a modern facility for those times, adapted to artillery combat. Until 1826, in the immediate vicinity of the gate, there was also an additional fortification - a barbican. For some time, the High Gate also served as a court arrest.
