The Market Square in Koszalin is an ideal meeting place for the city's residents, but also a must-see point for anyone going to those areas. Around the square there are numerous service and residential buildings, and among them is the modernist town hall, which is undoubtedly the city's showcase.
The market was established with the beginning of the city's history, i.e. in the thirteenth century. Built in the shape of a rectangle, it also served as the main market square. Originally, wooden buildings stood next to the market square, later houses were erected. It was destroyed in the eighteenth century by a fire that consumed almost the entire city.
The current town hall is located in the southern frontage of the market square and is the sixth such facility in the history of Koszalin. The previous ones were destroyed by numerous fires and as a result of hostilities conducted in the city. Formerly they were built in the central part of the square, and the first was built in the fourteenth century. The town hall, which we can admire today, was put into use in 1962 and is the seat of the city authorities.
