Gas Museum

Local name: Muzeum Przemysłu Gazowniczego

It is located in a historic gas plant building, where gas from coal was once extracted. The exhibition was opened at a former coal storage site. Visitors can see the complete process line used for gas production. The gas tank, historic gas meters and gas appliances used in households are also preserved.

The museum was opened in 1994 on the initiative of mountain gas workers. In their free time, they dealt with the renovation of the building and adapting it to perform a new function. During the works, historic building elements were found, which were included in the exhibition.

The gasworks began operating in 1908 and worked continuously until World War II. Initially, it powered only street lamps. In the following years, about 400 households were connected to it. After the Red Army entered, the gasworks were devastated almost halfway and the devices were taken away. After reconstruction in later years, it operated until 1992.
