The castle, which is under the management of PTTK (Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society), currently functions as a hotel and is a local cultural centre abounding in special events. In summer, the Grand International Knight's Tournament takes place there, which is a wonderful, colorful spectacle from the historical period. In the stylish halls there is also a restaurant, and next to the castle - a stable with recreational offer.
The historic building encourages people to visit the ethnographic exhibition in the gothic hall on the ground floor and to go through the courtyard, cellars, torture chamber, wide stairs, dungeon, dormitory, chapels, and many other rooms. The Hussar Chorągiew (cavalry unit) organizes parades and shows at the castle, which are an interesting and spectacular history lesson.The castle is a Gothic-Renaissance building which history had begun in the times of the Teutonic Knights. In 1300, the construction of a defensive-monastic building began. After years of serving the Order and wars in the early 17th century, the building underwent changes in the Renaissance direction to serve as the summer residence of Anna Vasa of Swede. This event caused that after World War II the castle has been rebuilt despite the reluctance to monuments with German origin.Less
