Artillery tower

Local name: Wieża artyleryjska

The round building is a remnant of the massive Prussian bastion known as Fort Malakoff. It has two above-ground floors connected by the collapsed ceiling and one ground floor. The above-ground part consists of two pillboxes which resemble cat eyes. The monument is located at the confluence of the Old Oder and the Oder, on the Głogów's headland of Ostrów Tumski, next to the collegiate.

Turm Reduit, the Prussian redoubt, was built between 1857 and 1860 to protect the north side of the city and secure the river. The last time the tower was used as a military object was during the siege in 1945 led by the Red Army. In the beginning, it served as a stand for anti-aircraft guns and later as a field hospital for German armies.

The construction remains in good shape to this day. It's an interesting example of an old 19th-century defensive building.
