Silver was found in today's Kongsberg for the first time in the 1720s. Apparently, a small lump was found by two children while grazing cattle. The mine operated until 1958, today it is the largest tourist attraction in the region. It can be visited on board the train, which takes tourists 342 meters below the surface.
