Andenes is a small town on the island of Andøya. In the past, it was known primarily as a fishing village, then a NATO base, and today it is gaining more and more importance as a tourist base for trips organized for the purpose of whale watching.
Although traces of settlement in this area go back to the Iron Age, in the past, Andenes did not stand out with anything special from other settlements on the Norwegian coast. It gained greater importance only after World War II, when the NATO airbase was located here, which still functions today.
From a tourist point of view, Andenes is a great place for people who like the sea nature and its observations. The most important attractions of Andenes include observation cruises from companies such as Whalesafari Andenes and Sea Safari Andenes. During the cruises, you can watch sea birds in their natural environment, but the most important goal is always to look for whales passing in this area.
In the town itself, the Andenes Lighthouse is a popular walking area and one of the most significant buildings.
