Sztip is a large city, picturesquely situated in a mountainous area. There are several beautiful waterfalls in the region, such as Gorubovo or Smolare, and the Isar hill with the remains of a fortress rises above the buildings.
Today's Sztip is calm and very intimate. However, in the past, it played an important role on the trade route and in the defense of the region. At the top of the Isar hill there are the ruins of a fortress, one of the greatest attractions of Sztip. Below the hill you can see four churches, including the oldest one, St. Michael the Archangel from the 14th century. On the hill you can also see a monumental monument to the Balkan War.
The center of Sztip is small and tightly built-up with houses mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries. Visiting it is mainly a walk through narrow streets, among slightly run-down houses. On the outskirts of the city there is one more attraction, the small Sztip Zoo.
